A Missing Tooth!

 Lexi is very lucky to have a cousin who is almost the exact same age as she.  They are very close friends and each summer they get to spend some time at "Camp Gigi and Poppy" together.  This year was especially exciting because the stay was two full weeks, and each of them had the same loose tooth!!  They enjoyed showing off their wiggly teeth to anyone who would look for the entire two weeks.

While Lexi and Cassie are great friends, and get along very well, there is also quite a bit of competition between the two.  Because of this we were all pleased that all teeth remained in their proper mouths until after the visit was over.  It was only two days after Cassie left that we got a note saying her tooth had popped out!  We were all very excited for her.

This past weekend, as we were preparing to head off to Storyland for the weekend, I made Lexi wiggle her tooth for me to see if it might come out while we were away.  It didn't look like it was ready to go, so we left the tooth box behind and hit the road.  We were there less than 24 hours when Lexi gasped loudly during lunch.  When I asked her what was wrong she said, "MAMA!!  I just pulled out my tooth!!!"  I cheered and said that it was great, expecting to see a huge smile on her face.  But instead she looked like she was in a panic and said, "NO!!  Not the wiggly one!!  The new tooth came out by mistake!!"  Of course, it had not, but it really freaked Lexi out, so even though her friends, Zach, Daddy and I were all excited, she needed a few minutes to check it out on her own.  After a bit she was ready to pose for pictures and show off the space in her mouth.

Per Lexi's request, the Tooth Fairy held off on visiting until we were back home in North Andover. We did, however, pick up a new tooth box while we were shopping in North Conway.  When we came home on Sunday night, Lexi carefully placed her tooth into the box next to her bed (she did not want to put it under her pillow).  She then asked me to leave the Tooth Fairy a note asking that she leave the tooth in the box.  It was her first lost tooth, you see, and she wanted to keep it for sentimental value.  The Tooth Fairy obliged, and still left her a shiny gold coin as a token of congratulations for meeting such a milestone.

It's all very exciting, though I admit that it's always a little hard for me when Lexi hits another milestone.  It's just shocking how quickly she is growing up.  I'll just have to keep making her show me that adorable little toothless grin.  :)
